Listen: Clear Eyes – Nico Segal & Vic Mensa
“Clear Eyes” – Nico Segal & Vic Mensa – The trumpet player and rapper from Chicago’s Kids These Days put together an extremely chill song for kicking back when times get tough for the upcoming finals. Check out Segal’s “Illasoul” mixtape here for more.

Listen: Welcome Home, Son – Radical Face
“Welcome Home, Son” – Radical Face – This song is impossible not to sing along to once you listen to it a couple of times. It’s so relaxed and a little bit sad.
-
Listen: Dreams – Smith Westerns
“Dreams” – Smith Westerns – This is from their first album, back when they were super Lo-Fi. The uncanny boyhood charm is evident on this track, which is perfect for the start of a weekend!
-
Listen: Going On – Gnarls Barkley
“Going On – Gnarls Barkley” – This song is dance-tastic! It’s pre-f*** you Cee-Lo, which is always a treat. Danger Mouse always seems to deliver as a DJ, too.
-
Listen: A Fond Farewell – Elliot Smith
“A Fond Farewell” – Elliot Smith – This is probably one of the saddest songs made in recent memory. Written and recorded right before his suicide, Mr. Smith delivers in creating something truly beautiful and pure.
-
Listen: Pictures Of You – The Cure
“Pictures Of You” – The Cure – Robert Smith: The Original Emo Rocker. If only modern emo-rock could take a cue from this guy. This is probably one of the more famous Cure songs, but for good reason. That damn guitar gets me every time!
-
Listen: Oldie – Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All
“Oldie” – Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) – Ok, I know I’m going to take some flack for putting an Odd Future song on my mixtape, but the rap collective is just too provocative to ignore. Almost every single member has a verse on this song, which was just released on their newest album “The OF Tape Vol. 2″.
-
Listen: EZ – Pete Yorn
“EZ” – Pete Yorn – This is another sad song to contrast the Odd Future that you just listened to. This entire album by Pete Yorn is phenomenal, but this penultimate song is one of the most memorable.
-
Listen: Coast of Carolina – Telekinesis!
“Coast Of Carolina” – Telekinesis! – This song just kind of explodes on you. One moment you’re singing along and the next, you are rocking out with your…well…you get the idea.
-
Listen: Darling – Kids These Days
“Darling” – Kids These Days – Sorry for putting multiple songs by the same artist on my mixtape, but I really just can’t get enough of them. I just went to one of their shows, and they killed it.
