Known for introducing Central Illinois to the best in new alternative and rock music, WPGU 107.1 FM is the source for hits from established bands such as Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Cage the Elephant, Vampire Weekend, Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Blink-182, and Pearl Jam, along with new music from the next wave of big name artists like the Imagine Dragons The Black Keys, Strumbellas, Twenty One Pilots, Alt-J, The 1975, Sufjan Stevens and Matt and Kim. WPGU targets 18 to 34-year-old adults, including the more than 40,000 students at the University of Illinois and over 17,000 faculty and staff members, as well as the local colleges in the Central Illinois area. Our listeners can be found on campus and in the communities throughout Central Illinois. Because WPGU’s format crosses generational lines, there is also a clearly defined 18 to 49-year-old audience captured. Local residents know WPGU as a radio innovator since 1953, and the station has been rocking the FM dial since 1967.

WPGU’s audience of young adults is establishing brand name loyalties now as they move into their peak spending years. WPGU listeners are interested in the mainstream alternative music, as well as local and indie music. Hosted by Nectarios, Alex, Colin, The Belle, and David, Take It Away is WPGU’s premiere talk show in the afternoons. They also interview Champaign and U of I’s best, including bands, popular student organizations, and local entrepreneurs.

This is the University of Illinois’ most popular sport show! Our hosts analyze every night Fighting Illini and national sports. Complete reports of important sports news are made and intriguing open-discussions are made between the hosts about the future of the university’s sports program.


The show that dives deep into U of I’s para-sports! Discussions are made about Illinois Men’s & Women’s Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Track. The team has had multiple Olympic medal winning guests and has raised money for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.


Can I Kick It is an alternative hip-hop talk show airing live twice a week on WPGU 107.1 FM Radio. Hosted by a diverse cast of 2 hip-hop super-fans, the show consists of in-depth discussions on all the latest news and music from their favorite not-so-mainstream artists. Every discussion is always fresh, new, and relevant. Although they love talking music from all around the world, the Can I Kick It team has a special place in their hearts for the talented and growing community of artists based in Champaign-Urbana, and often highlight local talent on the show.
