And now … a couple of causes worth your time

Dog lovers — and creature lovers, in general — have a rallying point at which to meet tonight at Mike ‘n Molly’s, where a benefit is being held to raise money for G.G., the pooch belonging to Beauty Shop drummer Ben “Creech” Ucherek. In her old age, G.G. is in need of knee replacement. To help offset the expense, Tractor Kings (of which Creech was once a member) and Golden Quality will perform a benefit show starting at 9 p.m. Creech has long been a staple of the local scene, participating in many bands, and is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, so drop by if you can and pitch in some bucks while catching a great show.
There is another benefit later in the week that also deserves some attention. On Sunday at the Highdive, several acts will come together to help raise money for JazLyn Shew, a six-year-old who has already had two open-heart surgeries, a valve replacement and several other procedures in her short life. With medical bills mounting, her aunt Sarah — you might know her if you’ve ever spent any time at Guido’s — set about organizing a benefit featuring some of her friends’ bands and favorite acts. Elsinore is set to headline (pulling double-duty after playing a free show in Hessel Park earlier), and will play alongside The Beauty Shop, Darling Disarm, Curb Service, Casey Reeves and more. The show will begine at 6 p.m. and will run until 11:30 or midnight. The suggested donation at the door is $7, with an emphasis on tossing in more if you can. Some of the other shows this week worth noting:
Curb Service/DJ LEGTWO @ Cowboy Monkey — Thursday — This free show will feature both sides of Larry Gates’s personality (the indie-hop looping artist and the record-spinning hip-hop lover). 10:30 p.m.
Trouvere/For Great Justice/Tritone @ Mike ‘n Molly’s — Friday — Dubbed “Cataclisym’s Edge,” this (hopefully) beer garden show is not for the faint at heart, but is for those who enjoy a cover under $5 ($3). 8 p.m.
Terminus Victor/Scruvine/Golden Quality @ Mike ‘n Molly’s — Saturday — Mike ‘n Molly’s is doing it right this week with a steady stream of awesome shows. This one features an excellent lineup of bands that dutifully throw down harder rock. $4, 9 p.m.
It’s another busy week in the CU scene and this listing barely scratches the surface. Head to openingbands.com or Myspace (where the “shows” listing under the “music” header now allows you to search for shows within a certain zip code’s radius on specific days.)
