On-Air Personality (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You are the voice of WPGU. Your knowledge, personality, and stories help to move the music along, 24 hours a day. Through this position you learn how to become an on-air personality, how to talk on air, how to use the WideOrbit software program, and how to operate a radio board.

Tasks:

  • Be an on the air radio DJ on WPGU 107.1FM

Time Commitment: 

  • DJ on the air + prepare for show (3 hrs per week)
  • Attend Training sessions (12 hrs for first semester, then 4 hrs per semester)
  • Attend Marketing events (6 hrs per semester)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • DJd for HS/community college radio station (preferred but not required)

On-Air Training Assistants (2 positions available)

Position Description:

  • Assist the On-Air Director in training new and old DJs
  • Host training sessions and help DJs understand how to use equipment and how to perform on the air

Tasks:

  • Host training sessions for new DJs (5 hrs per week for first 8 weeks)
  • Host training sessions for returning DJs (2 hrs per week for the last 8 weeks)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • DJ for a commercial radio station for at least 1 year (required)

Production Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You are the behind the scenes force. You create and edit commercials, intros, outros, etc. You use Adobe Audition to record and edit sound files. Through this position you gain the most software experience. 

Tasks:

  • Record and produce commercials and liners using Adobe Audition

Time Commitment: 

  • Record and edit (1.5 hrs per week)
  • Training (4 hrs for first semester)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Vocal Acting (preferred but not required)
  • Use of Adobe Audition (preferred but not required)

Junior Marketing Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You are the hands-on marketers representing WPGU. You build our image at events with the public. You will work go to events and be the exciting, energetic, happy, and fun face that people associate WPGU with!

Tasks:

  • Attend marketing events and meetings
  • Present a marketing event to attend at the end of the semester to the Marketing Team

Time Commitment: 

  • Attend Marketing meetings (1 hr per week)
  • Attend Marketing events (1 hr per week)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • None

Senior Marketing Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You are the marketing brains of WPGU. You build our image at events with the public. You will work both on behind-the-scenes marketing, planning our future marketing efforts, as well as go to events are represent WPGU! 

Tasks:

  • In collaboration with the Marketing Director communicate with organizations in Champaign County to organize marketing events
  • Present a marketing strategy at the end of the semester to the Marketing Team
  • Attend marketing events and meetings

Time Commitment: 

  • Attend Marketing meetings (1 hr per week)
  • Attend Marketing events (1 hr per week)
  • Work from home (1 hr per week)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Has worked in a marketing team before (required)
  • Organized large scale events (preferred but not required)

Engineering Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You have the tech-savvy person that makes sure our radio station broadcasts 24/7! You will work in a team maintaining the radio station equipment, creating solutions to technical issues, and bringing together remote radio station broadcasts.

Tasks:

  • Assist the engineering director in repairing any issues with equipment
  • Assist at marketing events that require engineering expertise and use of equipment

Time Commitment: 

  • Attend Engineering meetings (1 hr per week)
  • Attend Marketing events (0.5 hrs per week)
  • Respond to an emergency (4 hrs per semester)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Radio engineering experience (preferred but not required)

Social Media Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You manage multiple social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) update our combined 8000 followers, and attract new ones. 

Tasks:

  • Contribute to the WPGU social media platforms

Time Commitment: 

  • Attend Social Media meetings (1 hr per week)
  • Work from home (1 hr per week)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Managed social media accounts for other organization(s) (preferred but not required) 

Specialty Show Social Media Manager (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You will be assigned a specialty show for which you will be in charge of their social media accounts. Social media is really important for shows these days so you will work closely with the hosts of these shows to make sure that they are represented on the biggest social media platforms

Tasks:

  • Manage a specialty show’s social media accounts

Time Commitment: 

  • Meet with specialty show producer (0.5 hrs per week)
  • Work from home (1.5 hrs per week)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Managed social media accounts for other organization(s) (preferred but not required) 

Web Writing Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You have the creative writing skills to capture an audience to read fascinating articles on our website. You would write a certain number of articles per week such as music news, concert reviews, album reviews, and create playlists for our website. 

Tasks:

  • Contribute to the WPGU website by writing music and culture related articles
  • Attend shows and write reviews

Time Commitment: 

  • Attend Web Writing meetings (1 hr per week)
  • Work from home (2 hrs per week)
  • Attend All-Staff Meetings (4 hrs per semester)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Article writing & music knowledge (preferred but not required)

News Intern (multiple)

Position Description:

  • You will be part of a radio news team producing news reports, recording them, and uploading them to our system to play on-air. 

Tasks:

  • Collect news stories and decide which ones are appropriate for WPGU
  • Record and edit news segments

Time Commitment:

  • Work from home (1-2 hrs per week)
  • Record and edit news segments (1-2 hrs per week)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Worked at a HS news paper (preferred but not required)

Music Intern (2 positions available)

Position Description:

  • You are aware of the alternative music scene’s newest updates and additions. You are in charge of researching new music, look at trends, and update our music playlist.

Tasks:

  • Discover new music for WPGU and present findings to the Music Director
  • Go through music sent to WPGU physically or online and present findings to the Music Director
  • Upload and categorize music on our on-air system

Time Commitment:

  • Work from home (1 hr per week)
  • Upload new music to system (1 hr per week)

Desired Previous Experience:

  • Good knowledge of the alternative music scene (required)
