Pet Lions reign from Chicago as a quartet featuring two musicians who started out playing together and found something more than what they were expecting. Guitarist Karl Østby and bassist Shuhei Yamamoto recruited the last two members through Craigslist, which may seem unconventional, but it appears to be successful for the band as they released their debut EP back in March with Soft Right. The band gave the EP away for free, giving the listeners the opportunity to hear what they have to offer, all you have to do is put in an email address.
The debut features breakout single “Roman History”, which features a catchy Strokes-ish feel and has gotten significant play at WPGU. The band was also a featured artist on the bill for Champaign-Urbana’s own Pygmalion Music Festival and continues to be a rising local artist, touring recently with another breakout indie artist A Sunny Day in Glasgow. Soft Right EP is one of the best debut EPs to be released this year and also features signature songs of theirs “Stuck At The Bottom” and “Girl of Athens”.
