LPD Festival Artist: Smoking Popes

The Smoking Popes formed in Lake of the Hills, Illinois in 1991. The band’s core members are comprised of brothers Josh, Matt and Eli Caterer who play guitar, bass and guitar respectively. Their first release came out in 1991 on Radius Records entitled Inoculator EP.
Since then the group has released four full length studio albums spanning from 1993 to 1997 and released their fifth studio album in 2008 after reuniting in 2005. The Smoking Popes have toured with the likes of punk rock legends Green Day, alt-rock Jimmy Eat World as well as punk-rockers Jawbreaker. They reached the peak of their popularity in the late 90’s when they released Destination Failure on Capitol records in 1997. Music legend Morrissey, lead singer (of the now-defunct) The Smiths, called the record “extraordinary, the most lovable thing I’d heard in years.”
Fans of the band can expect a new album, It’s Been A Long Day, set for release this February 16th on Asian Man Records. Concert goers can expect a lively, energy-filled set when the Smoking Popes take the stage this Friday as headliners of WPGU’s inaugural Laughing Prairie Dog Festival.
