Remember Whensday – Help!

On February 24, 1965, The Beatles began filming for their movie Help!. As a millennial, it may seem like I’m a mile away from truly appreciating what the Beatles did for music. Most millennials would consider the likes of Kanye West and Adele to be revolutionary but I always like to see the bigger picture. While those artists have contributed to the musical landscape in their own respects, The Beatles is the band that made pop music so accessible.

I must admit that accessing The Beatles’ collection has historically taken a bit of extra effort on the part of the listener. Until a few years ago, music fans couldn’t even download The Beatles’ music let alone stream it. All of that has changed and more young people should give them a listen. The quality of The Beatles’ collection is unparalleled in terms of oldies that ring true to today as well.

The Beatles had songs about romance, breakups, and changing the world. All of their discussed topics are things that young people still care about today. The production on their albums was wonderful as well. With worldly instruments and catchy melodies that are instantly stuck in your head, it is nearly impossible to see someone say that they can’t find a favorite Beatles song. Not to mention, The Beatles come from an era when music was much purer and cleaner which made their art more available to a wider public.

Since the time that The Beatles broke up and left the world with their wonderful albums, we have heard many bands come around that harness the spirit and likeness of this iconic group. These groups include but are not limited to NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and One Direction. Their influence has even spread to solo artists that choose to sing about the same things that The Beatles did. I can’t wait to see what The Beatles’ influence will do for music next.
