Summer: when townies roam free on campus

Homesick, the new album from Tractor Kings, is finally available for pre-order on Parasol Records’ Web site, www.parasol.com. The site also hosts an mp3 download of “Drop the Fight,” which is not one of the songs that you’ve been streaming at www.myspace.com/rueroyale to preview the songs. This show will be followed by another free show right around the corner at Cowboy Monkey. Santa will kick off a set at 11 p.m.
The Iron Post will offer up a solid rock show on Friday night, giving you a chance to check out the spiffed-up sound system in place following the huge fundraiser last month. Former Ambitious Pie Party/Synethstasia frontman Kelly McMorris will kick off the show at 9 p.m. followed by national touring act (and Minneapolis native) Chris Koza Band. The band recently returned from a west coast tour and will make it home to Minnesota in time to release its fourth album, The Dark, Delirious Morning. Headlining Friday’s show is Modern Day Savage. There is a $5 cover charge.
The column goes into summer mode this week, and less space sadly means less shows highlighted. Head to www.overuc.com or www.openingbands.com to see show listings and read more about what bands are playing around town. If you’re in one of those bands, make sure that you submit your shows to those sites.
