WPGU Artist Of The Week: Animal Collective

If you were lucky enough to catch Animal Collective at Pygmalion Festival last year, you are well aware of this group’s strange, eclectic style.

The experimental pop group has had a variety of genre labels thrown upon them; everything from indie to art rock, noise pop to neo-psychedelia (also known as acid punk). Regardless of how you describe the group, they have received wide commercial success, specifically with the albums Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion. While waiting at concerts for other indie performers, I’ve heard the song “My Girls” and “Floridada” blasted over the speakers.

Due to their significance and unique sound, I thought they deserved to be highlighted as our #WPGUArtistOfTheWeek. Below I’ve included a playlist of some of my favorite jams.

Warning: they’re kinda bonkers.

About Madeline Vogt

Maddie is currently still transitioning out of her middle school emo phase. You can find her listening to indie rock, taking naps at Espresso Royale, or raving about her home state, Minnesota (RIP Prince). If Maddie won the lottery, she'd probably spend it all on Kanye’s clothing line in an attempt to appear more hip.
