Below the glow of an “I Love This Bar” sign, six bands took the stage for a benefit concert at Memphis on Main Thursday night.
Between the $1.75 draft special and local talent that weren’t tied up next door at the Local Music Awards, the crowd filled the bar and supported each act that ranged from Zmick’s techno-style dance music to ukulele and glockenspiel of World’s First Flying Machine.
“There’s going to be a lot of awesome bands tonight, and we’re as excited to see them as everyone else,” said Ben Campbell of World’s First Flying Machine.
Throughout the show, the bar was accepting donations to go toward the Illinois Disciples Foundation, which works to denounce violence and encourage social justice, and ABC Counseling, which aims to “help families grow through adoption and to help families heal from the trauma of sexual abuse,” according to its website.
World’s First Flying Machine started the evening off with their unique sound that blended duet harmonies with their unique instrumentals, followed by Common Loon, who played a shortened set due to two replacement band members.
Zmick then crowded the dance floor flooded with strobe lights with their upbeat party music. Tall Tale then took the stage to supportive fans of their creative lyrics and harmonies.
Town favorites Elsinore and The Beauty Shop rounded out the evening to a welcoming audience.
Although Memphis on Main could not provide an accurate account of the funds raised for the cause, the night was a success as far as turnout and entertainment.
