Caribou and Fuck Buttons Bring Noise to Courtyard Café

Two weeks ago, I found out Caribou and Fuck Buttons would be making a stop in CU on their North American tour. The same day, I logged onto my computer and the first music news item I saw was “Caribou cancels dates after drummer falls and breaks wrist!” Typical. Fortunately, they have found a replacement and the show will go on! I got the chance to speak with Dan Snaith, the man behind the dreamy electro—pop Caribou.
Dan was quick to explain the incident that involved drummer Brad Weber. “We use a projection system during our shows, so Brad was standing on a wobbly ladder setting it up when he toppled over and broke his wrist in two places.” Ouch. Brad has been temporarily replaced with Sinkane drummer Ahmed Gallab.
When asked how things were with touring partners and critical darlings Fuck Buttons, Dan had a few choice remarks: “They are total pompous jerks with whiny British accents. [chuckle] No, they are quite hilarious and very fun to be around.” Figuring that’s what should be expected from two guys who would name their band Fuck Buttons, I moved on to Caribou’s recent Take Away Shows on la blogotheque.
Filmed in the streets of Paris, one of Caribou’s Take Away Shows features band members playing “She’s the One” while a crowd of school children follows them through winding alleyways in bright sunshine. Although the video perfectly captures Caribou’s sublime tone, Dan explained it was improvised by la blogotheque’s Vincent Moon.
“It all happened just very spur of the moment. Vincent asked us to do it and we only had an hour to work with.”
Caribou will not be showing a Take Away video Thursday, but you can expect an engaging visual accompaniment to the already brilliant music.
