DJ Blog: Modern Marvel – The Tallest Man on Earth

Calling Bob Dylan fans. Young, old, tall, short, blonde or brunette. You. Hi there, Bob Dylan fan!

If you haven’t listened to and fallen in love with The Tallest Man on Earth yet, look him up, buy his CDs and obsessively listen to his amazing music pronto. Swedish folk singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson (who performs as The Tallest Man on Earth), was born on April 30, 1983.

He has released two studio albums, Shallow Grave in 2008 and The Wild Hunt in 2010, which ranked at number 33 on Pitchfork Media’s “Top Albums on 2010.” Matsson has also released two EPs; in 2006 he released a self-titled EP and he went on to release Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird in 2010—just five months after releasing The Wild Hunt. Seems like 2010 was a busy year for this talented and apparently tall Swede.

Hit singles include “The Gardener,” “The King of Spain,” “Where Do My Bluebird Fly?” and “Pistol Dreams.” These singles (and, in my opinion, “Kids on the Run,” the tenth track off of The Wild Hunt) really highlight Mattson’s similarities to Bob Dylan. Not only is his songwriting and subject matter reminiscent of Dylan’s folk, blues and folk rock styles. Additionally, Matsson features his amazingly gravelly vocal style as The Tallest Man on Earth, which immediately brings Bob Dylan to mind.
