During the month of October 2019 WPGU 107.1 FM will be hosting Illini Month, a month dedicated to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the radio station’s relationship with the university. As a student-run radio station WPGU 107.1 relies heavily on the University, not only financially but also because all of its staff are students of the university. The station has been serving the university and the community since 1953 and this is our way to return to our institution. For the whole month of October WPGU 107.1 will be hosting events, radio shows, and creating multimedia projects relating to the University of Illinois.
Interviews with University of Illinois Alumni, Faculty, and Athletes
WPGU will be interviewing some of the most important people surrounding the University of Illinois including notable alumni and award-winning faculty.
Free-of-charge Commercials for RSOs
WPGU will allow 5 RSOs to have the opportunity to have free advertising on the station. Each RSO will be given 20 30-second commercials, an on-air interview, and advertising on WPGU social media accounts and the WPGU website. RSOs will be asked to submit an application by the 15th of October and the winners will be announced on the 17th of October. RSOs raising money for charities and hosting events open to the public are most highly encouraged to apply.
WPGU/The Planet alumni sit-ins will be happening during the whole month. Alumni of the station will be given an hour to host their own show for their alma matter’s audience.
