2. Where did you get your band name?
An 18th-century English agricultural pioneer
3. When did you start performing?
I started performing solo music in late 2003.
4. Who is your greatest musical influence?
Ben Jinapantha
5. Describe your sound in 3 words or less.
Intimate (hopefully), provocative (hopefully), evolving (hopefully)
6. What is your favorite place to perform?
Aroma Café or the Canopy Club’s small hall
7. Where is your favorite after show party spot?
My bed
8. What is your latest album called?
“Counter Intelligence.” It’s available at both Parasol and Exile on Main St. If you want to read a review of it, check out the latest issue of Innocent Words.
9. When is your next performance?
My next performance is on July 4th at the Dawghaus Café in Chicago. It’s right on the lakefront, so if you’re looking to hear music drowned out by fireworks, I’m sure it’ll be a lovely experience.
10. If you could perform with anyone in the history of music, who would it be?
I’d curate a Dead Musician Festival, and capture live footage of the elusive ones (I’m looking at you Nick Drake and Jackson C. Frank).
11. What historical event does your music sound like?
Aaron Burr v. Alexander Hamilton, except the violence is more latent.
12. If you could own any house pet, what would it be?
A cat or a moose
13. What is your favorite thing to eat before a show?
Pasta dentifrica

18. What was your favorite middle school field trip?
When all the other schools were taking class trips to D.C., my 8th grade class traveled to Springfield. And we enjoyed it.
19. How often do you get your hair cut?
It depends on the season.
20. What is the best concert you’ve ever attended?
This is a tossup among Wilco’s Chicago residency, Iron & Wine at Lollapalooza ’06, and the last couple Andrew Bird shows around C-U.
21. Who are you voting for in 2008?
My plan to vote for Kucinich was foiled long ago by this beast known as the “democratic process.”
22. Who did you vote for in 2004?
I wasn’t old enough, so I only could watch in horror.

Al Gore stole one of my PowerPoint presentations from the seventh grade.

Turkey is always a solid choice.

I’m not sure what constitutes “reality” anymore.

I’m not a huge fan of hypothetical questions or time travel, but I suppose I would have liked to see the meeting at 10 Downing Street on July 23, 2002.

34. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in the name of music?
I once won an air guitar competition with renowned air guitarist Brian Campbell. He wooed the judges by playing me as a guitar.

Check out Butterfly Assassins. They’re playing Pygmalion this year.
36. If you could be one of the Flavor of Love girls, who would you be?
“Rock” is better than “Flavor.”
37. What is one cool thing you think everyone should know about you?
As a 5th grader, I performed a solo instrumental version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in front of my school. The year before that, I did a disturbingly slow rendition of “Wipeout.”

I’m itching to turn 21 so I can go to some of this summer’s Mike and Molly’s shows, but alas, I must wait until August. (Bands: if you get me in, I’ll work your merch table.)
