WPGU’s Track of the Week: Heavy Young Heathens

WPGU’s Track of the Week contest is the perfect contest for bands and artists trying to put their music out onto the air waves. The CU community is bustling with musicians from all sorts of genres and we want to hear from you. Band’s that aren’t local from all around are also encouraged to enter!

Winners will be featured on the the217.com and will be played on Sunday night on WPGU’s Inner Limits, airing from 9-10 pm.

3/28: Heavy Young Heathens
Heavy Young Heathens are an American alternative indie rock duo made up of brothers Aron and Robert Mardo, who have been compared to UK rock band Primal Scream. Looking for a change in direction, the pair quickly started recording as just a duo of Bass and Drums after the dissolution of their last band. Out of necessity, the band was “Forced to forge the Do-it-Yourself path of record making, touring and merchandising”. 3/14: Beat City
Beat City is a collection of Danish twenty-somethings from Copenhagen. Gaffa-Magazine rated their first demo to five out of six stars, and with rejuvenating energy the band went back to the studio to record their new Among The Many EP. 3/7: Black Steel Rose
Black Steel Rose are a California-based alternative rock band who have made several prominent festival appearecnes such as Bamboozle and South By Southwest, among many other notable venues around the country. Black Steel Rose played over seventy shows in 2009 and independently sold over 36 thousand copies. 2/28: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
The band Standing on the Shoulders of Giants are a Chicago based band formed in 2007 originally as a hardcore band and after a few member changes the band developed into more of a “classic rock with a modern twist” sound. SOTSOG is comprised of founding members Jacob Taus, Alex Garibay and Christopher Foss, as well as former members of the band The Chemist vs. the Computer; Nick Raducha, Jimmy Wernes and the newest addition Tara Murphy. 2/21: Asiago
This band from Norway which will be releasing their first album “A Daring Smoothie” online on March 8th. Check out their tracks here: http://www.asiago.no/booking. Check out their track “Last Ticket” to the player above!

2/14: Madeline Speak
The band has created their debut EP called The Cellar Tapes available digitally and physically nationwide, and are beginning their debut tour this coming March. Their track “Sing Out” was chosen for this week, and you can read their full bio here: www.myspace.com/madelinespeak
