The 23rd Annual Operation Santa pledge drive is underway. WPGU is gathering holiday wishes from children right here in our community. These are children from our most underserved population who may not have any Santa gifts this season if not for Operation Santa.
This year we are working towards a goal of raising $3,500 to buy gifts for a total of 70 children and we need your help in donations. All of the proceeds go directly to purchasing the gifts for the children. Our fundraising efforts culminate in having a dressed up Santa deliver the gifts to the children!
The children are from the following two organizations:
Crisis Nursery creates an “Island of Safety” dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by providing 24-hour emergency care for children. Crisis Nursery is the only emergency-based childcare facility open 24 hours, 365 days a year for the entire community to access with no fees, or income eligibility. Beside safe shelter for children, ages birth through six, they also provide family support and parenting education.
Parent Wonders is a program that partners with families to nurture healthy parent-child relationships during the critical early-childhood years and to enhance the positive development of young children. The organization serves parents who reside in rural Champaign County who have children from ages birth to 36 months. It focuses on at-risk pregnant and parenting teens and families who have the greatest needs.
