Green Street Records Prepares for CD Release Show

Ready to experience an eclectic mix of local music and earn free stuff in the process? Join Green Street Records, CU’s pre-eminent student-run record label, this coming Saturday, April 26, for a Canopy Club show celebrating the free release of their fourth compilation of student bands. Appropriately titled Free for All, the album includes 13 professionally recorded tracks from Saturday’s acts as well as tracks from the Butterfly Assassins, The Coop, Jack Pine Savage, Tall Tale and Santa. An all-day event running from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., the show features a diverse group of performers, including the likes of Vanattica, Organic Flow, Jonathon Childers, Carl Hauck, Ben Avci, Mark Donnelly, The Ruckus, Dr. Doctor PhD and special guests Book by Its Cover. For the low price of $5, concert-goers can enjoy acts from a myriad of genres, composed of the best student musicians from the University. Prior to the show, co-sponsoring organization Illini Media will host a “Green on Green” event, featuring booths of RSOs and sponsors aimed at promoting green initiatives and awareness of environmental concerns. In addition, all concert attendees will receive both an album booklet and a card with instructions on how to obtain a free mp3 download of Free For All. Keeping current with the times, Green Street Records has replaced the antiquated form of the CD with a digital-only version, better fit for the growing iTunes generation.
