LPD Festival Artist: Hood Internet

Aaron Brink (ABX) and Steve Reidell (STV SLV) make up Chicago based DJ’s, also known as Hood Internet. They originated in March of 2007 and only growing stronger. Their mixes are made up by fusing indie rock with hip hop, for example one of their favorite mashups is Broken Social Scene and R-Kelly, mixing Broken Social Scene’s song “7/4 Shoreline” with “I’m A Flirt.”
According to a PASTE magazine interview with Reidell of September 2009, he mentioned that there has been no legal trouble with the DJ’s mashups, but only positive feedback from artists they feature in their mixes. Now having more than 300 tracks, Brink and Reidell plan to drop their first album Mixtape Volume 4 album next fall. They mentioned that it is only original stuff along with contributions from rappers and artists that have helped them along the way.
Brink and Reidell have been creating mashups for over two years now and have played at many different venues in the states, including most recently here in Champaign-Urbana as a headlining band of the Pygmalion Music Festival. With their biggest crowd to date being at Chicago’s own Lollapalooza, they spun a great set at Perry’s DJ spot alongside many other noteworthy DJ’s including as Diplo, MSTRKRFT, Kid Cudi, LA RIOTS, and A-Trak. These two only have better venues and more fans coming their way to look forward to once their LP drops. Chicago’s spinning is only getting bigger every year and with DJ’s such as Hood Internet, Flosstradamus, Kid Sister and the Cool Kids, Chicago will be exploding with mixes and beats to dance to.
